About us

Origins & Objectives

The Sunday Times Business Club (STBC) was launched in 1995 by the newspaper with the help of Celltel, Sri Lanka’s first mobile phone company. It arose from a need to bring together young professionals and others in the corporate sector to interact, network and share common interests.

From those initial beginnings, the club has grown from strength to strength drawing junior and mid-level professionals, CEOs and Managing Directors, to one of the leading business clubs in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

Among its objectives is to help build young leaders in the private sector and society at large through various event including a monthly meeting, social responsibility activities and interaction.

The club is managed by an executive committee which is elected at an annual general meeting held in June/July of the year. A club constitution guides the way the club operates, the selection of members and the election of the office bearers.

Its main activity is a monthly meeting in addition to other activities including fund raising event to support a social responsibility project, which is an annual feature.
